The double or nothing card.

Maybe Card is a payment card where every purchase is a coin flip for the purchase amount. Heads, the purchase comes back free. Tails, it costs you double. You pay like you always do, and the result lands on the same card.

How it works

You pay a merchant with your Maybe card, in a shop with Apple Pay or Google Pay, or online. The merchant is paid in full, like with any card.

Right after, Maybe flips for the same amount. Win, and the amount is loaded back onto your card: the purchase was free. Lose, and the same amount comes off your card again: it cost double. The flip is capped at what is left on the card, so it can never take more than you loaded.

An example

Dinner costs $40.00. You pay with the card as normal.

  • Free: $38.00 comes back onto your card ($40.00 minus the $2.00 flip fee).
  • Double: $42.00 more comes off your card ($40.00 plus the $2.00 flip fee).

The odds are 50/50 on every purchase, whatever the amount. Maybe earns a flip fee of 5% (minimum $0.75), not an edge in the odds.

Three editions

  • Blue, $49.00: online checkouts. $50,000 monthly limit.
  • Diamond, $89.00: Apple Pay and Google Pay, tap in any shop. $150,000 monthly limit.
  • Don, $329.00: everything Diamond does, plus triple or nothing. $200,000 monthly limit.

Every card can switch between double or nothing and off at any time. Triple or nothing, one chance in three paying 2:1, is Don only.

What it is not

Not a rewards programme and not cashback. There are no points and nothing to redeem. Each purchase either comes back in full or costs the same again, and you can check how every flip landed.
